EAST HAVEN, CT — Eight-year-old Macey Flores just wants to "help homeless kitties eat and stay warm." Her idea was to create Mittens for Kittens to help support the Branford Compassion Club. So with the help of her already altruistic family, owners of Rosso Vino in Short Beach who've been running a toy drive for Yale New Haven Hospital's toy closet, she decided to craft mittens she'd inscribe for a donation and then display at the restaurant. Macey and her parents, Lisa DeGenaro and Joe Flores, went to a local craft store and bought all the items Macey needed to create these 'kitten mittens.' "Love will keep us warm," one mitten reads. Macey's Mittens for Kittens reached $2002.
