SECAUCUS, NJ — This Secaucus police officer is credited with saving the life of a newborn baby who couldn't breathe Wednesday night. At 8:37 p.m. Wednesday, October 7 Secaucus Police got a 911 call from a father stating that his five-week-old baby was turning blue. Officers responded to the Mallard Place home (inside Riverside Court), where they found the five-week-old baby boy was not breathing. The boy's mother was giving the infant CPR. She was on the phone with an EMT at police dispatch, who was directing her how to do the CPR. Police Officer Mikhail Kowlessar immediately stepped in, took the newborn and swiftly administered "back slaps," in accordance with his training. The infant spit up some clear liquid and began to breathe on his own. The infant was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center and was discharged Thursday morning. At the time of publication, the infant is doing well. "First, I would like to commend the parents of this infant for their ability to follow the directions of the Emergency Medical Dispatch and initiate CPR," said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. "I would also like to recognize the responding police officers, especially Police Officer Kowlessar. He used his training and performed flawlessly, which undoubtedly saved this infant's life. I am extremely proud of him." Don't miss a second of breaking Secaucus news! Sign up for the Secaucus Patch: https://patch.com/new-jersey/s...
