Description
SECAUCUS, NJ — If Secaucus residents suspect — or fear — they may have the coronavirus, they now have two options in town to go for testing: Both Riverside and Hudson Regional Hospital now offer testing for the coronavirus. Both testing sides are advertised as "drive through."
The test for coroavirus is a nasal swab into the far upper reaches of the nasal cavity; it is not said to be a pleasant test. Anyone with these symptoms should be tested: A fever, a cough — particularly a dry cough without phlegm — and shortness of breath.
Riverside Medical Group, located on Tenth Street, started offering the testing on-site late last week. Calling it "drive thru testing," the doctor's office says it is done outside.
If any patient shows up at Riverside with coronavirus symptoms, they are evaluated at the front door through a telemedicine platform; if they meet certain criteria they are scheduled for testing outside. Keeping the patients outside minimizes the risk of exposure to other patients and staff. Riverside testing is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. by appointment only. Call 201-863-3346.
And starting Monday, Hudson Regional Hospital followed suit, offering coronavirus testing by appointment at their location at 55 Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus. Call Hudson Regional at 201-388-1097 to begin the screening process.
A healthcare professional will discuss your symptoms, and, if appropriate, take your information and set an appointment time for a screening. The screening takes place inside the hospital, and if needed, additional tests will be performed in a specially designated area. Test results will be provided within 3-5 days.
