ARTIST RECEPTIONCome meet the artists of the 2022 Southport Plein Air Festival at a dinner reception for them on Friday, May 13, from 4-6pm at the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay Street. The $15 entrance fee includes a Latin-themed meal accompanied by jazz pianist David Pope, and a glass of beer or wine, with more available for purchase. Up Your Arts is once again pleased to host this annual festival in joint partnership with the City of Southport. The non-profit arts organization promises a variety of events for the general public May 13-14, in addition to the now-familiar sight of easels set up throughout the city with artists painting the outdoor scenery “en plein air.” Elements of Hispanic culture will be showcased throughout the two-day festival. Thanks to a North Carolina Grassroots Grant awarded by Brunswick Arts Council, activities on Saturday include Brazilian and Spanish guitar performers, as well as, traditional Hispanic meals and treats served from mobile food trucks, and children engaged with Mexican folk-art projects during Kid’s Plein Air. After the reception, you’ll have a front-row seat for a live concert with the Back Porch Rockers on the Community Building lawn overlooking the Cape Fear River from 6-8pm.
