I can feel it in the air and if you are into the outdoors as much as I am, then I bet you can too. The hunting season is coming soon. These are the words that bring my soul to life and it certainly is a magical thing. The rush of going into the outdoors and going on an adventure bring life into me. Hunting is not about killing and negativity. Instead, it is about adventurous experiences and putting high-quality food on your family's table and loving every minute of it. Now I have really hyped up the whole topic and that is actually how I feel about it. There really is a lot of hardship involved in hunting and having a stoma is something that does get on my list of importance. So before the season starts getting the right gear for what you are doing is very important. Even if you don't have a stoma being safe and warm is a big deal where I live. Most hunting starts when fall comes around and with that in my location weather can change drastically and safety comes to mind. The gear is important and I am a huge gear guy. Every year I wonder if I have the right gear for the task and it is not only hunting camo but getting the right ostomy supplies as well. Making sure you have the right-sized bag for the hunt to get you through without having filing issues. Eating and drinking the right things before the hunt is also important. The one thing that does come to mind when hunting gear is involved is the smell. Most animals smell a whole lot better than a human and hiding your scent from walking in and simply being there is very important. Luckily many ostomy supplies are created to scent block and not just for human senses but completely. They use many of the same technologies as hunting gear does and it is really cool to see. So get good scent blocking gear but if you are new to hunting and maybe have a stoma being warm is also really important. The gear you buy should mostly focus on your health first and looks later. Most camo is the same to the animal's eyes and if our grandfathers and fathers could hunt with no camo then we should be grateful to have any. But the warmth and keeping your core safe is important to me. You are releasing heat there and I don't want anyone to get any kind of frostbite or dry skin especially on your stoma area. How to keep this from happening is layering correctly. Once your ostomy gear is ready, you need to layer for the weather. Think backpacking and mountaineering. The entire industry and even the military made all their gear from these areas and the concepts that follow. Hunting has now taken those philosophies to heart and created layering systems not based on cotton to keep hunters warm. I use lots of new military gear and hunting gear mixed in because the cost for brand new military gear is half of the cost of hunting gear. I layer with the military and use hunting outer layers due to the camo look. This is a great way to save money and stay warm. Hope this helps in your next outdoor adventure!
