WAYLAND, MA — Wayland will host two community forums Tuesday to review proposals to build a new community center and to install a grass sports field at the Loker Recreation Area. Voters in Wayland will be asked to approve funding for the two projects in the upcoming May 10 election. If approved, Wayland would use debt exclusions to pay for the upgrades — a way to increase property taxes higher than allowed under state law to pay back bonds used for infrastructure projects. For the community center project, Wayland wants to renovate a vacant building near the corner of Andrew Avenue and Route 20/Boston Post Road. The new center would house programs for the Council on Aging, plus youth and recreation programs. The town also wants to build a $125,000 grass field at the Loker Recreation Area following a moratorium on turf fields approved by Wayland Town Meeting in the fall. The community center public forum begins at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom and WayCAM, and the Loker forum begins at 8 p.m.
