Updated (1:50 p.m.): This story was updated with information from Fairfax County Fire & Rescue's blog. RESTON, VA — One person was injured and 15 people were displaced in a two-alarm fire Sunday night at the Stonegate Village Apartments in Reston, according to a post on Fairfax County Fire & Rescue's blog. Fire units arrived around 7:54 p.m. to find fire showing from a third-floor apartment building in the 2200 block of Stone Wheel Drive. As fire personnel entered the building, a second alarm was requested. Firefighters rescued an occupant from the third floor, who was injured. The person was evaluated by emergency medical personnel but refused to be taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. Twelve people were inside the apartment when one of the occupants heard a smoke alarm. Seeing smoke, the person told the other occupants to activate the building's fire alarm. Fire investigators determined that the fire started when an unattended lit candle in a third-floor apartment spread to combustible materials nearby, causing $125,000 in damage. The fire was classified as accidental in nature. The fire displaced 15 people. The apartment complex's management company worked with the Red Cross to assist the displaced residents.
