STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A pair of pets died in a house fire in Stafford County on Monday morning, according to the fire department. The fire also displaced two residents who were not injured.
The fire broke out around 4 a.m. on Monday morning. At that time, firefighters arrived at the home in the 200 block of Wood Landing Road in the White Oak area.
The first units who arrived on the scene said that a one and a half story log cabin-style home was on fire. Smoke was emerging from the front and the side of the home.
One person was home when the fire began, the fire department said. They crawled out through a window before firefighters arrived on the scene. They did not report any injuries. A pair of pets died in the blaze, authorities said.
"Crews were challenged by rural water supply, which required the dedication of additional resources to bring water to the scene because no hydrants were available," Stafford County Fire and Rescue said in an update posted to Facebook. "Additionally, crews were challenged by the construction type, which required extensive overhaul."
The fire displaced two residents, who have requested assistance from the American Red Cross. Officials said the home's smoke alarms were present and activated when the fire broke out. The Stafford County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating to determine what caused the fire.
