DARIEN, CT — Confirmed cases of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in Darien reached 180 on Friday, and the number of hospitalizations stood at 10, announced First Selectman Jayme Stevenson. The number of coronavirus-related deaths in town remains at four. Additionally, 51 residents have recovered from the virus, but the town is still in the midst of collecting information on those cases. "Of the 10 hospitalizations, 7 are 70+ years of age, 8 are male," Stevenson wrote on Facebook. "Of the 4 deaths: 2 were hospitalized, 2 were 60-69 years of age, 2 were 70+." The number of cases locally may be different from state coronavirus figures due to coding errors by some testing laboratories, according to officials. Statewide, the number of deaths reached 1,764 as of Friday, and confirmed COVID-19 cases stood at 23,921, according to state health officials. The number of hospitalizations statewide declined by 70 compared to the previous day, but the number of deaths rose by 125 on Friday, and confirmed cases rose by more than 800. In Fairfield County, the number of new positive cases broke the 10,000 barrier on Thursday and now stands at at 10,227, which remains the most confirmed cases in Connecticut by far. On Thursday, Gov. Ned Lamont and state officials indicated that Connecticut likely won't reopen until June, and at that time the process will be slow. Lamont also clarified information surrounding his executive order to wear masks in public, stressing that not all situations require masks.
