DARIEN, CT — The number of Darien residents who have died of complications from the new coronavirus (COVID-19) is five as of Tuesday, according to the state Department of Public Health, which for the first time has released the number of deaths for each Connecticut community. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Darien stood at 190 as of Tuesday, according to First Selectman Jayme Stevenson. In a Facebook post, she said there were four coronavirus-related deaths in Darien, but state and local numbers can vary due to lags in reporting. Nearly 2,100 people across the state have died from the virus, and there are more than 26,300 confirmed cases of the virus in Connecticut. According to Gov. Ned Lamont, the state is likely a week to 10 days away from an announcement about certain businesses that can be reopened in a limited capacity, though he may release preliminary guidance later this week.
