Description

DARIEN, CT — The number of coronavirus-related deaths have reached five in Darien as of Monday, and the number of confirmed cases broke the 200 barrier with 204, according to First Selectman Jayme Stevenson. The First Selectman had been posting Darien's coronavirus (COVID-19) information on her Facebook page, but that page was not available on Monday and instead, numbers were listed on town's website. State health officials list the town's death total at six, but according to Darien Health Director David Knauf, the discrepancy is due to one patient being listed by medical examiners as a COVID-19 death because that individual had respiratory issues prior to death. The number of Darien residents hospitalized with the virus was 17 as of Monday, a slight increase from recent days due to the town collecting additional case data, according to officials. In Fairfield County, the number of deaths reached 1,034 as of Monday; the total number of confirmed cases in the county was 13,312, state health officials said. Additionally, the number of new hospitalizations in the state declined by 30 to 1,212, and as of Monday 132,508 people in Connecticut have been tested. Last week, Stevenson and Knauf recommended that all Darien residents receive get tested for coronavirus; appointments can be made at www.coronatestct.com.
