WOODBRIDGE, NJ — There was a significant car accident Monday morning on West Avenue in Sewaren, where a car struck a utility pole and then a building, according to Woodbridge Police. The collision brought an electric pole down onto West Avenue Monday morning and the road is closed. The building that was struck is at 567 West Avenue. The driver said that while driving on West Avenue towards Marsh Street a unknown object fell on his car, making him swerve left into a utility pole in front of 567 West Avenue. The force of the impact also ripped out a section of the roof from 567 West Avenue and damaged electrical service to the building. The car also briefly caught fire, but nobody was injured. The driver was not injured, but he was taken to the hospital for a preexisting medical condition. West Ave. is currently closed between Marsh and Brewster until the pole and live wires can be removed, said Woodbridge Police. The fire department and PSE&G are on the scene.
