ARLINGTON, VA — The 2022 Congressional Hockey Challenge at the Medstar Capital Iceplex in Arlington ended with a 4-2 victory for the congressional team against Capitol Hill lobbyists. The annual charity hockey game returned to Medstar Capital Iceplex on Thursday for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After entering the third period tied two apiece, two late goals from the congressional lawmakers' team led to the victory, marking the fourth straight win over the lobbyist team. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), the only member of Congress to play in this year's game, played defense. The game featured two players from the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association, with Baylee Wellhausen joining the Lawmakers and Sophia Shaver representing the Lobbyist squad. Since 2009, the game has raised more than $1.2 million for charities, including the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club, USA Hockey Warriors Ice Hockey Program, Capital Warriors Beltway Hockey Program, and the Tampa Warriors Hockey Heals event. The 2022 game also supported the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association as a way to support the growth of women's and girl's hockey in the U.S. The congressional team celebrates winning the 2022 Congressional Hockey Challenge at the Medstar Capital Iceplex in Arlington.
