'Coco Chanel' The Monkey Wasn't Stolen In Maplewood After All: Police

NORTH ST. PAUL — There's been a major update in the case of the stolen Twin Cities monkey. Originally, the Maplewood Police Department said that "CoCo Chanel" — the white-faced monkey — was stolen Tuesday from a car that was parked at the city's Cub Foods store on White Bear Avenue North. According to the police's first public statement on the case, at about 8:30 p.m., a woman entered Cub Foods and left CoCo Chanel in her car. When the woman returned, the monkey and her pink carrier were missing. However, the Maplewood Police Department has since said that "through investigation," investigators "discovered" that the theft actually occurred on Tuesday at about 8 p.m. on the 2200 block of 7th Avenue East in North St. Paul. The stolen monkey investigation has been turned over to the North St. Paul Police Department. "We're working alongside Maplewood police to try and get the facts straight, because it sounds like some things just aren't lining up," North St. Paul police Sgt. Ray Rozales told the Pioneer Press.
