ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 hasn't completely wiped out the coronavirus, but its case numbers remain low.
As of Friday, the district reported 13 coronavirus cases among students. Two weeks earlier, the weekly number was the same. Spring break intervened.
The district's best week this calendar year so far was in early March, with just nine cases among students.
The district dropped its mask mandate in early February.
As of Friday, two employees in the district tested positive for the coronavirus.
At current levels, the district has one coronavirus case for every 640 students. Four of the 13 cases were reported at York High School.
Since the beginning of the school year, the district has recorded 1,555 coronavirus cases among students and staff.
As of Thursday, Elmhurst Hospital reported seven patients testing positive for the coronavirus. That's down from a record high of 105 in January.
In Elmhurst, the number of coronavirus cases has been generally falling over the last couple of months. Last week, 40 cases were reported in the city. That works out to one for every 1,200 people in town.
The city reached a weekly high of 599 in January.
