DARIEN, CT — Two people were pulled from Long Island Sound near Copps Island in Darien Saturday after the sailboat they had been in sank, according to Darien police. The two were transported to nearby Norwalk Yacht Club for medical evaluation, but whether they suffered any injuries was not disclosed. Darien police said the incident began when officers on Darien 127, the department's marine division vessel, received a distress call at about 12:45 p.m. about a boat taking on water near Copps Island. Officers sped to the area and found two men in the water, with "the mast of a sunken sailboat protruding above the waterline." The two men were pulled from the water, and the United States Coast Guard was alerted about the submerged sailboat, police said.
