BURR RIDGE, IL – Eight companies last month bid on the contract to resurface eight Burr Ridge streets. At a Village Board meeting, David Preissig, the village's public works director, described the process. "The bid opening was a little unsettling for some time because the first seven bids that were opened were considerably higher than the engineer's estimate," Preissig said. But the last bid brought good news: It was six-hundredths of 1 percent higher than the estimate of the village's project engineer, Jim Miedema. The $685,479 bid was from Huntley's Schroeder's Asphalt Services. The highest bid was $925,555. "It's really kudos to him for accurately portraying this because the bid prices overall were 12 percent over what the 2021 prices were. Asphalt prices alone were 21 percent, compared to what they were in 2021," Preissig said. Trustee Guy Franzese said the village always gets "fantastic" engineering estimates. "Six-hundredths of 1 percent is phenomenal, excellent work," Franzese said. "Also getting our bids out early always helps as well." According to the village, it will resurface 1½ miles of roads this year.
