Press release from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools: 4/11/2022 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools media coordinators were recognized with awards for Outstanding Media Coordinator of the Year and New Media Coordinator of the Year. "This year, we have the unique honor of awarding (Outstanding Media Coordinator of the Year) to two outstanding recipients," said Kimberly Ray, director of virtual learning media services. "They are indispensable to their school community." Williams has 16 years of experience in CMS, with three of those years at East Mecklenburg High. Williams has won several grants including $38,000 to build a makerspace in the library and is an "innovative and passionate educator" according to her peers. "Ms. Williams makes adding value her mission by helpong other people to live better lives and reach their potential," said Principal Rick Parker. "She is one of the most compassionate educators as a media specialist I know when it comes to teaching and having students' best interest at heart. Ms. Williams is always committed to being effective, extremely focused, hardworking and consistently providing a level of support unmatched by many." Moyes moved to CMS five years ago and has been a strong instructional partner with her teachers, mentors new staff and leads at the district level. "Ms. Moyes has redefined the role of a media coordinator such that students and teachers are met with a variety of hands-on, engaging, content-connected activities," said Berryhill School Principal Cara Heath. "If you walk through our media center, you may see Ms. Moyes reading aloud to students in the story well or helping students find books to check out; however, you may also see students creating new podcasts, using coding to program robots, learning to knit or brainstorming a new product that will create and market!" The New Media Coordinator of the Year award is brand new and given annually to a new media coordinator with three years or less experience. "New media coordinators face unique challenges in building a strong program while continuing to learn themselves," exclaimed Ray. Stevenson has been the media coordinator at Northridge Middle for two years and manages the Innovation Station Media Center programming and leads with technology. "Ms. Stevenson displays qualities that any school would want in a media coordinator," said Principal Orlando Robinson. "She is dependable, hardworking, punctual, and most importantly, a team player.
