Press release from At Home In Darien: Dec. 17, 2020 During these uncertain times, Darien's senior citizens were able to count on volunteers to help with the laborious chore of raking. At Home In Darien would like to thank the many volunteers who participated in this fall's leaf-raking program: The St. Thomas More Youth Group of Darien, The Church of Latter Day Saints Youth Darien Ward, The Neighborly Missions group from the Darien United Methodist Church, students in the Community Fund of Darien's Thriving Youth Task Force, the Hopper, Pastore, Stupak, Wheeler, Ventker, and Vicente families, and Anders Hansen, Delaney Nollman and Alex Vogt, who spent 303 combined hours raking, bagging and hauling numerous piles of leaves from the homes of 18 Darien seniors. The community is grateful to these groups and individuals for their kindness and service to the community. The leaf raking provided for clean lawns, and also benefited the seniors who felt an intergenerational connection to the community. This was especially appreciated during this time when seniors are encouraged to stay at home due to the pandemic. In turn, raking was a wonderful, outside opportunity for volunteers. Not only did the volunteers have fun, they also felt the joy of giving back. At Home In Darien is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization whose mission is to help older adults in Darien to live independently, comfortably and with dignity in their own homes for as long as possible.
