Danbury Police Charge Waterbury Man With Drug, Firearm Offenses

DANBURY, CT — Police apprehended a Waterbury man suspected of making illegal drug sales in the Danbury area. The Danbury Police Department said it had received multiple complaints alleging that Ramell "Mell" Crawford regularly sold illicit drugs from his 2014 BMW. After a weeks-long investigation, police established surveillance at Crawford's home on Morningside Avenue in Waterbury on Monday. Police then followed Crawford as he drove to Danbury, where officers took him into custody at the corner of Liberty Avenue and South Street. Following further investigation, police say they found a cache of illicit narcotics packaged for sale, drug paraphernalia and U.S. currency in the car. In light of Crawford's possession of narcotics, police submitted another search warrant application to the court requesting authority to search his residence in Waterbury. Once granted, police searched Crawford's home and seized a loaded pistol containing a large capacity magazine and additional narcotics, according to the police report. Police charged Crawford with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, prohibited possession of a large capacity magazine and manufacture of a firearm without a unique identification number. Crawford was held on a $250,000 bond.
