DANBURY, CT — A development study for downtown Danbury has won an award.
The New England Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism awarded the City of Danbury's Downtown Danbury Transit-Oriented Development Study the 2020 Urbanism Award in the neighborhood/district/corridor category.
In its notification of the award, the CNU noted the record number of applications this year in this category with Danbury's application scoring the highest.
The TOD study, which made recommendations for the planning and development of downtown land use, transportation, and public spaces, was completed in January 2019.
Accepting the award, Sharon Calitro, Danbury's planning director, said: "Through proper planning, a robust public engagement process, and developing and implementing workable strategies, Danbury continues to promote compact, walkable, and transit-oriented development and great public spaces in its historic downtown.
