Press release from The New American Dream Foundation: November 17, 2020 Danbury, CT, November 16- In light of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on families in the Danbury area, The New American Dream Foundation (TNADF) postponed its annual scholarship gala and placed all of its efforts on supporting the immediate needs of the community as we fight the virus. The TNADF COVID-19 Hot Meal Program for children and families served nearly 8,000 meals from April 13 through June 13, the end of the academic year in the Danbury area, raising over $39,000 trough small online contributions from individual and grant from local corporations and foundations such as Linde and the RobyDodd Family Charitable Foundation, Inc. Over the summer, the foundation shifted the focus of the meal's program to support older adults and special needs adults living in the Danbury area by providing 500 meals during the month of July, thanks to the generosity of Union Savings Bank and Savings Bank of Danbury. Committed to continuing the seniors program, TNADF, with the support of The United Way of Western CT, began a monthly delivery schedule in August surpassing the 11,500 meals purchased from the Amber Room Colonnade and served by over 30 local volunteers. "In this challenging time, there is nothing more important than community coming together and helping one another out. The Amber Room is proud to be a partner with The New American Dream Foundation in fulfilling the mission of feeding as many people as possible during this difficult time," said Douglas Polistena, general manager of the Amber Room Colonnade. "We are proud of what, together, we have been able to accomplish thus far. Since our partnership began, and with the help of so many, the Amber Room and the New American Dream Foundation have provided over 11,000 hot meals for members of our community. We are humbled and honored by the immense generosity and look forward to continuing feeding our neighbors in need." In the Fall and Winter, with the support of the Tufts Health Plan Foundation in the form of a $10,000 grant to help communities affected by COVID-19, and $10,000 from the CT Health Foundation, TNADF will be able to add 150 residents of Danbury Commons to the meal program and provide 650 special holiday meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas. "The New American Dream Foundation is working hard to meet the needs of the community during this pandemic, and we are pleased to be able to support their important work," said Tiffany Donelson, president and CEO of the Connecticut Health Foundation.
