Dear fellow parent, When I found out I was expecting, I started to expose myself to different parenting principles that called to me. It’s been 20 plus years since I’ve raised my daughters and there is so much information available now as to what young minds need to thrive. I decided early on to learn and implement Montessori principles into our daily routine. I’m so happy to share and use these fundamentals with other families and your little ones. The basics are respect, trust, and self-sufficiency along with supporting the absorbent mind and providing a thoughtfully, prepared environment. My favorite books on the topic are The Montessori Baby and The Montessori Toddler by Simone Davies. Age-appropriate routines and activities allow the following concepts to be explored daily in our home: Music: Children can participate in singing, piano and clarinet playing, with various genres introduced. Art: A variety of mediums, planned and open projects. Practical Life Skills: Cooking, wiping, gardening, manners; Kids will be given assisted opportunities to prepare healthy food for themselves. Outdoor Play: Safe, private outside deck for fresh air, aerobic activity, and water play. Reading and Story Times Sensory Play: Toys and activities that involve taste, touch, sound, sight, and smell. Emotional Control: Exercises like yoga, stretching and breathing are used as breaks throughout the day Outings, Events and Lessons: Occasionally we take longer walks to the park and library or drives such as to swim lessons. The most important thing for our family is that we are having fun!
