Dysregulation and Development: Using Play Therapy to Understand and Enhance Emotional Wellness
This training is designed for the play therapist in agency, private practice, and school settings who is interested in learning more about the impact of stress and trauma on children’s developing brain and how play therapy interventions and techniques can be used to aide in enhancing children’s emotional well-being. We will cover the basic therapeutic power of play regarding children’s emotional wellness with enhancing their social relationships. Introductions to concepts regarding a child’s emotional wellness and social development in relation to stress and trauma that affect emotional wellness and social relationships. The material presented will cover topics including stress and trauma’s impact on the developing brain primarily with emotional responses. The material will also cover ways that clinicians can address the emotional and behavioral dysregulation by using interventions geared toward brain and emotional development.

Kayla Cox received a master’s degree in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. Since graduation, she has continued her education regarding child development. She is a registered play therapist, certified AutPlay therapist as well as certification for DC: 0-5 infant mental health and diagnosis. Recently, Kayla was invited to present at the 2022 Children’s Mental Health Symposium.
