The 100 year story of three generations of a family once enslaved by the proprietor of The Georgetown Hotel
Yvette LaGonterie uncovered that three generations of her distant relatives were enslaved in the building now known as The City Tavern. The context of African American life in nineteenth century Georgetown is illustrated by the story of the Clarkes and Dyers. Ms. LaGonterie is a family historian, speaker and writer. She now serves on the Board of Directors of the City Tavern Preservation Foundation.
