Join us for an evening of conversation, author engagement, and celebration with Ernie Suggs, Andrew Young, and Shirley Franklin! In Ernie Suggs' new publication, The Many Lives of Andrew Young, he chronicles the life and legacy of the influential human rights activist, politician and icon. The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library, in conjunction with the Library's Friends' Council, is pleased to host an engaging conversation and book signing between author and journalist, Ernie Suggs and Ambassador Andrew Young. Mayor Shirley Franklin, who served as Chief Administrative Officer in Young's mayoral administration, will lead the evening's rich discourse. Join us at 5:00pm for a meet and greet prior the program. Published by New South Books, The Many Lives of Andrew Young tells the inspiring, dramatic story of the civil rights hero, congressman, ambassador, mayor and American icon. Featuring hundreds of full-color photographs capturing Young's extraordinary life and times, Ernie Suggs' book includes captivating narrative and personal accounts from Young. The book includes a foreword from President Jimmy Carter and an introduction by Gaurav Kumar, President of the Andrew J. Young Foundation. Ernie Suggs has been a reporter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 1997, currently covering race and culture; he is also the publisher of the paper’s weekly, Black-oriented newsletter, Unapologetically ATL. An alumnus of North Carolina Central University, Suggs was awarded a 1996 fellowship by the Education Writers Association, which culminated in his award-winning, Pulitzer-nominated series Fighting to Survive: Historically Black Colleges and Universities Face the 21st Century. He was chosen for the prestigious Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University in 2008, and received the Pioneer Black Journalist Award from NABJ in 2013.
