Description
I recently received a phone call from a 42 year old female. She was frustrated and depressed about her diagnosis. 2 years previously she had knee pain from running. Her doctor told her she should never run again and was given a diagnosis of patellofemoral syndrome. So she followed her doctor’s advice and stopped running. This made her more and more stressed as this was an activity she enjoyed and could no longer do. I had her come in to see what the root cause of the problem was for her. It turns out her symptoms were in the knee, but her issue was stemming from her pelvis - not only was she not in alignment but she moved in a way that put stress on her knee. We worked on re-positioning her pelvis first, then on retraining her movements and strengthening. She was painfree with walking and steps after the first week and by the 2nd week I had her try an easy 1 block run. She came back ecstatic that she was able to do it and be painfree! We continued the retraining and strengthening, using Pilates-based rehab for another 10 sessions. She was finally able to gradually go back to running. Here is a testimonial of someone else who loves to play tennis and has to walk a large dog: "I've worked twice with Cynthia for 2 different body parts. She helped relieve pain in my knees from even walking and taught me exercises to strengthen and better use my core and glutes to take pressure off my knees. Thanks to Cynthia's holistic approach to PT focusing on the cause (other weak body muscles), not just the symptom, I feel I am getting close to returning to tennis and walking my dog without pain!"
