GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending April 5. March 30 Items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Lee Road driveway.Officers responded to multiple railroad gate malfunctions at various crossings along the Hempstead LIRR line.A truck driver on St. James Street South was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving in a No Commercial Vehicle zone.A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed.A driver on Clinch Avenue at Greenridge Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and passing a stop sign.March 31 Firefighters and police responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be aerosol spray.A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessively tinted windows.Officers arrested a driver for leaving the scene after being involved in a two-vehicle-crash on Clinton Road which resulted in an injury to an occupant of the other vehicle.April 1 A contractor was charged with operating power lawn maintenance equipment before 8 a.m. A light pole in front of a Franklin Avenue restaurant was found knocked over by unknown means.A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with out of class operation, suspended registration and excessive speed in a school zone.April 2 Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for the St. Joseph's 5K Run/Walk for Tomorrow's Hope. Firefighters and police responded to a restaurant for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be construction.A driver on Clinton Road was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.April 3 Officers investigated two vehicle thefts. The first vehicle was reported stolen from a Pine Street residence. It was tracked to a Brooklyn location and recovered. The second vehicle was reported stolen from a Fifth Street residence. It was tracked to a Mount Vernon location and recovered. The investigations are ongoing.Loose change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Poplar Street driveway. Other vehicles in the vicinity were rummaged through with no loss reported.A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with fraudulent license plates, excessive speed, and unlicensed operation.Officers arrested a 19-year-old driver on New Hyde Park Road for eight driver license suspensions, tinted windows, and defective brakes.April 4 A business reported three of its checks were stolen, altered and cashed for $79,000.Multiple unauthorized charges totaling $5,600 were reportedly made against a resident's credit card account.A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with fraudulent license plates and unregistered operation.Officers and firefighters responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and discovered it was activated by hairspray.A driver on Rainbow Place was charged with suspended license, suspended registration, and tinted windows.April 5 A resident's identity was stolen and used in an attempt to take out a car loan and purchase car insurance.A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
