Secaucus Man, 56, Critically Burned In Friday's Fire

SECAUCUS, NJ — On Friday afternoon, a fire broke out at the Elms, the senior living apartment complex at 777 Fifth Street. A 56-year-old man was critically injured in the fire and he suffered life-threatening injuries, said Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. The fire broke out at approximately 2:34 p.m. on Friday, April 8: The Secaucus Police Department and the Secaucus Fire Department received multiple smoke detector notifications from a fourth-floor apartment in the building. Upon arrival, the Secaucus Fire Department found heavy smoke inside apartment 406 and a 56-year-old man inside the unit with life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to Hudson Regional Hospital and then transferred to the West Chester Medical Center Burn Unit, where he remains in critical condition. The fire was contained to that single apartment unit. The cause of the fire has not been released by the county prosecutor. The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force, the Secaucus Fire Department and the Secaucus Police Department are all investigating.
