Press release from Waukee Community School District: April 7, 2022 April 4th-11th is National Library Week! The purpose of this week is to encourage students, families, and communities to connect with their local libraries. Our librarians and library associates do so much to empower and aid students in their learning by helping to cultivate an appreciation for reading and connecting them to genres, characters, and stories they enjoy. As part of National Library Week, we checked in with a few of our district librarians about their favorite reads and why they enjoy teaching library… Fiction or Non-Fiction: Fiction All-Time Favorite Read: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini Favorite Part about Teaching Library: My favorite part of being a Teacher Librarian is that I have the opportunity to support ALL students at Waukee High School. Inspiring a love of reading and empowering students to become information literate are two of the most valuable and rewarding aspects of my job. Fiction or Non-Fiction: Historical Fiction is my favorite, but I really enjoy them all! All-Time Favorite Read: Starfish by Lisa Fipps Favorite Part about Teaching Library: I love seeing students grow as readers throughout the years and helping them discover books, characters, and authors they love and connect with. Fiction or Non-Fiction: I love both equally! All-Time Favorite Read: The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling Favorite Part about Teaching Library: I love connecting kids to books that make them want to keep reading! Fiction or Non-Fiction: I really love both. Give me a great memoir or even a historical fiction book! All-Time Favorite Read: Educated by Tara Westover Favorite Part about Teaching Library: I enjoy getting to know all the students and teachers at Woodland Hills!
