Convicted Carjacker Walks Away From Reentry Facility In LA

LOS ANGELES, CA — A search was underway Sunday morning for a 34-year-old man imprisoned for carjacking who walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program facility in Los Angeles. Oscar Orozco was sent to the facility Feb. 1 and was scheduled to be released from prison in February 2023, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. At about 10 p.m. Saturday, corrections officials noted Orozco had left the facility without authorization, the CDCR said. Agents were immediately dispatched to locate him and law enforcement agencies were notified. Orozco was sent to prison June 14, 2020 to serve 12 years, six months for carjacking with the use of a firearm. He was convicted in Kern County in 2015 and ordered to serve four more years for possession of a controlled substance in prison, the CDCR said. He is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt and gray pants cut off into shorts. A CDCR photo shows Orozco has tattoos around his neck and under his chin. Anyone who sees Orozco or knows his whereabouts should immediately contact law enforcement or call 911. — City News Service
