RAMSEY, NJ — Police have released details about the recent theft of mail from mailboxes at the Ramsey post office early Monday morning, including the identities of two men charged in connection with the thefts. Jerson Acosta, 20, and Raisuli Rodriguez-Fermin, 19, were each charged with theft, possession of burglary tools, and criminal attempt of theft, said Chief Bryan Gurney. Acosta and Rodriguez-Fermin were arrested early Monday morning after a police investigation. Officer Bryan Arsi was on patrol when he saw two suspicious men near the mailboxes on Main Street at 12:43 a.m., Gurney said. Several police officers converged on the vehicle. Officers believe they interrupted a crime in progress, the chief said, because they found mouse traps with glue, shoelaces, and plastic water bottles. "All of these seized items, it is suspected, were used in previous 'fishing' thefts of mail," Gurney said. Police are investigating previous mail thefts and incidents of check fraud, and are working with the United States Postal Service to secure mailboxes in Ramsey, Gurney said.
