BROOKFIELD, CT — This time it wasn't a drill. Students at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School evacuated the building on Monday around 11:30 as the firefighters were dispatched there for a dumpster fire. Crews reported a "fully involved dumpster 10' from the building," which they quickly extinguished leaving no damage to the school. At no point did smoke enter the building, according to the report. As a precaution the building's atmosphere was metered and found normal prior to allowing students to re-enter the building. "Superintendent Barile and Brookfield Police Department Captain Frengs worked together with BVFC command staff on scene to assure that the students and staff were safe and were able to resume normal activities after the fire was extinguished," firefighters from the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company posted to social media. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Brookfield Fire Marshal's office.
