Seniors At Brandywine In Princeton Celebrate Assisted Living Week

PRINCETON, NJ — With family visits to assisted living facilities in the state curtailed for almost five months during the coronavirus, many residents have had limited or no contact with their loved ones. As the state recently allowed in-person visits to resume, Brandywine Living in Princeton kicked off National Assisted Living Week with a celebration for residents and their families. Seniors got the opportunity to meet their loved ones for a whole week of fun activities. The theme of this year's celebration is 'Life is a Treasure'. On Monday, seniors and families enjoyed a pirate-themed celebration. Residents and staff created a homemade pirate ship and participated in a treasure hunt. Residents were treated to an outdoor movie – Treasure Island, on Wednesday. The events were planned keeping in mind social distancing rules and safety of the residents. "All events were carefully thought out and safe for our residents. Safety is paramount," said Stephanie Gaber, escapades producer at Brandywine Living. The coronavirus took a deadly toll on nursing homes and assisted living centers across the state. All in-person visits were stopped to mitigate the spread of the virus. Visits now are only permitted outdoors. Gov. Phil Murphy recently signed legislation targeted at enhancing safety, services and protection at long-term care facilities.
