The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and Awards Gala will be hosted at The Selby on Sunday, May 22 at 6 p.m. The Sarasota MLK Celebration Committee is hosting the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and Awards Gala at The Selby on Sunday, May 22 at 6 p.m. This event is in lieu of the annual commemorative breakfast that was canceled this past January due to rising concerns about COVID-19. Mr. Hank Battie, owner, Cravats' Custom Clothiers, and Ms. Jessika Ward, journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker, will serve as the Master and Mistress of Ceremonies. This year's honorees are Leah Dubose (Youth Emerging Leader), Safe Children's Coalition/HIPPY & Achievers (Champion of Youth Programs), Caroline Zucker (Community Service), Business & Professional Women of North Sarasota (Community Service), Keysha Matthews (Community Service), Dr. Tracy Goodman (Education) and Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church (MLK Legacy Award)
