Read Across Madisonville is a community event for families to get excited about reading and spending quality time together. Read Across Madisonville 2022Presented by John P. Parker, Rising Stars of America & Madisonville Education and Assistant Center Early Literacy is Key Please join us for the 6th Annual Read Across Madisonville event. A community-wide celebration geared towards families and children of all ages. This year we are celebrating the rich history of HBCUs. The event will take place on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 5:00 PM at Atrsville, 5021 Whetsel Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45227. Read Across Madisonville 2022 theme is “Early Literacy is Key” which focuses on motivating children and their families to get excited about reading and spending quality time together. With this in mind, John P. Parker Elementary School and The Ready Writers Workshop © by Mission 6 Consulting, LLC introduced the students to the power of publishing personal stories with professional illustrations throughout the 2021-2022 school year. The Ready Writers Workshop boosts literacy skills through storytelling and other evidence-based strategies. The workshop is recommended for ages 7-11. A similar workshop is also available for parents. The best storytellers are children whose imaginations draw us back into the times of our youth when we dreamed of whom we wished to be. The 3rd and 4th grade students at Parker published a book which was an accumulation of a 10-day writing workshop. The early learners collaborated with a professional illustrator to create unique characters for each chapter. Stories have been minimally edited to preserve each student's voice and imagination. The young learner’s body of work will be displayed at the event for everyone to enjoy. In addition to this incredible evening, we are delighted to have Latoya Turner as our keynote speaker. Latoya will be reading her book, "Brown Hands, Black Schools HBCUs." The goal of this book is to teach children about Historically Black Colleges and Universities at an early age. For Black History Month students at John P. Parker Elementary School participated in many engaging and educational HBCU activities. During the event, Parker learners will explain the concept “Why an HBCU?” If you have any ties to any HBCU’s, please represent by wearing your HBCU gear. There will be an After Glow session with Ms. Turner immediately following the main event. This family fun celebration will feature HBCU activities, raffles, giveaways, a light dinner, a special appearance by Cincinnati Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney, and so much more. You don’t want to miss this! The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
