More Than 25K Mail-In Ballots Yet To Be Counted In Mercer: Clerk

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — As the country eagerly awaits the outcome of the 2020 Presidential Election, Mercer County residents too will have to wait a little longer for the results of local races. According to the latest update from the Mercer County Clerk's office, around 25,000 mail-in ballots are yet to be counted. Officials informed Patch that the tally will be posted on Friday. The County Clerk's office said they continue to receive more mail-in ballots. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Phil Murphy mandated an election by mail-in ballots. Machine voting was allowed only for those with disabilities. So, most New Jersey residents used vote by mail. The state also extended the deadlines for mailing back ballots. Voters need to have their ballots postmarked by Nov. 3 and it should be received no later than Nov. 10, to be counted. Those who did not receive their mail-in ballots before election day, were asked to visit their assigned polling stations to cast provisional ballots.
