Description
The second-ever permablitz event organized by Philly Permablitz. Our hosts will be Anisa and Hemant in Landsdale, PA. This is the second-ever permablitz organized by Philly Permablitz! So what's a permablitz, you might ask? A permablitz is an informal gathering involving a day on which a group of people come together to achieve the following: create or add to edible gardens based on principles and ethics of permacultureshare skills related to permaculture and sustainable livingbuild community of like-minded peoplehave fun!Who can come to a permablitz? Anyone and everyone can come to a permablitz, and there is never any cost to participate. Never picked up a shovel? No worries! We especially welcome first time gardeners so skill level and physical ability aren’t problems at all. Just come and contribute any way you are able. We all have to eat, so food gardening is relevant to everyone and you’re sure to meet interesting, friendly people of many stripes and persuasions at a permablitz. Kids are welcome to attend but must be supervised at all times. What will happen on the day of the blitz? What will my role be? Every blitz is a little different, but each blitz is focused around implementing various parts of a permaculture design. At this first blitz at Anisa and Hemant's, we are planning to have groups of people working on the following projects (among other things, hopefully): Digging up and moving plants to a new locationSheet mulching new garden beds and planting them outCreating and planting out a new rainwater gardenSo your role will be to learn about whatever tasks we are doing from the blitz facilitators, and then jump in and help do them! Attending a blitz is not a passive experience, so only attend if you plan on helping out and getting involved. You will probably learn a lot along the way! What should I bring? Once you sign up for this event, the blitz facilitator will reach out to all the attendees to see who can bring what tools and resources. All tools you bring will be labeled at the start of the blitz so they can be easily identified and returned to whoever brought them. You don't need to bring anything to eat too, unless you have special dietary needs. A vegetarian lunch, snacks, coffee, tea, and other drinks will be provided by the hosts, Anisa and Hemant. The most important thing to bring is a positive attitude and a willingness to jump into whatever projects are going on at the blitz! Work gloves, a water bottle, a hat, and sunscreen would be a good ideas as well. About the Site & Our Hosts (Anisa and Hemant) The site is a small suburban site in a housing development in Landsdale. The front yard slopes down to the street. The backyard is less sloped and south-facing. Most of the blitz work will be done in the backyard. Anisa and Hemant, who both have permaculture design certificates, have designed the site themselves and will have help facilitating the design from a member of the Designers Guild.
