PRINCETON, NJ – It's been a tough year for many Princetonians as the pandemic slowdown resulted in many people losing their jobs and homes. During these tough times, community members came together to help those in need. Recently, the Princeton Human Services asked community members to contribute to their 22nd Holiday Gift Drive. And Princeton Human Services said they had their "most successful" drive this year. Donors came forward in large numbers to help their neighbors in need. "Our annual Holiday Gift Drive has always been a wonderful opportunity for the community to support our children in Princeton, however, this year this program was needed more than ever," said Melissa Urias, director, Princeton Human Services. "We saw more families sign up for gifts as the pandemic affected many of our neighbors, but we also saw more donors wanting to donate. This past year has been a tough one for us all, but especially for our children and we are grateful to be able to provide them with a little bit of joy," she said. The department distributed gifts to round 334 children, and gift cards to each family to help them during the holidays. Contributions for the gift drive came from the Stone Hill Church, Dorothea's House, Tenacre Foundation, Princeton Children's Fund, PBA Local 130, Weichert Realtors, Church & Dwight, the Princeton Recreation Department and the Woodland Drive neighborhood. Many municipal employees, police officers and Princeton residents made individual donations and sponsored children. The Princeton Human Services helps local families in need and conducts holiday drives. For information on how to make a donation for next year, you can contact the Human Services Office at 609-688-2055 or e-mail [email protected].
