To ensure maximum efficiency and to avoid confusion by voters, Bexar County Elections Department administers elections for all local governments in Bexar County on the uniform election days in May and November. The City Clerk is designated as the election official for the City of San Antonio and will execute and oversee the Contract. Today, at the City Council meeting, Debbie Racca-Sittre, Interim City Clerk reviewed terms and conditions of the elections contract, provided an election schedule and outlined key points regarding new state law (SB1) pertaining to Vote by Mail. Key Dates: April 7 – Last day to Register to Vote April 26 – Last day to Apply for a Mail in Ballot (received, not postmarked) April 25 – May 3 Early Voting (See attached list of Early Voting Sites) May 7 – Election Day May 18 – City Council Canvasses Results of Election Vote by Mail laws now restrict the distribution of applications for Mail-in Ballots and require identifying information to be provided on the inside flap of the ballot envelope. The City Clerk provided these tips: Voters over the age of 65, disabled, out of the country, expecting to give birth within 3 weeks of election day, in jail but otherwise eligible may request an application for a Mail-in Ballot for themselves only, not another voter. Agents are not allowed to request applications for Mail-in Ballots. Organizations or nursing homes wanting to assist with mail-in ballot applications for their clients, should contact the Texas Secretary of State. To ensure your mail-in ballot is counted - Read and follow all instructions on the Ballot. - Place your Driver's License or State ID number and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number on the inside flap of the envelope provided so the Bexar Elections Administrator can match your ballot to your registration as they may only have one of these numbers on file, but most voters do not know which one. - Sign the outside flap of the envelope after sealing it. - Only use the envelope provided with the ballot. (The mail-in ballot period for the Primary Runoff Election overlaps with the May 7 Election – Do not put both ballots into the same envelope as the ballot that does not match the envelope cannot be counted.) - Mail your ballot as early as possible to ensure it will arrive by Election Day.
