Press release from City of Fort Worth: April 07, 2022 This is the latest in a series of articles discussing projects proposed in the May 7 Bond election. Bonds Ranch Road is a critical regional arterial that connects Business 287 to U.S. Hwy. 287/81 in north Fort Worth. Plans call for construction of about one mile of four-lane divided concrete arterial that includes curb and gutter, internal drainage, two major creek crossings, an at-grade railroad crossing, streetlights, traffic signals at Wagley Robertson Road and Fossil Springs Drive and shared-use paths. A multi-lane roundabout will be constructed at the U.S. Hwy. 287/81 southbound frontage road, where a single-lane roundabout exists today, and intersection improvements are planned for the other major intersections in this corridor. This project also includes extending Wagley Robertson Road to the north, creating an additional access point for the existing residential developments north of Bonds Ranch Road. The City of Fort Worth intends to annex the segment of Bonds Ranch Road and the intersection of Wagley Robertson Road as part of the project. Completion of the Bonds Ranch Road and Wagley Robertson Road connection meets these goals: Congestion mitigation and mobility improvements. A roundabout and other connections to the east have been recently completed as part of the city's 2018 Bond Program, making this new section a high priority to continue connectivity and improve congestion. Bonds Ranch Road carries a high volume of daily commuter traffic due to its connectivity to U.S. Hwy. 287/81 and the large number of single-family homes in adjacent subdivisions. Bonds Ranch Road also provides access to several schools in the area. North Fort Worth is experiencing unprecedented growth. Bonds Ranch Road traffic is projected to increase nearly 500% (to 50,8000 vehicles per day), so this proposed project is critical to alleviating congestion and accommodating growth. To help plan for future growth along this roadway, the new median will be built wide enough to leave room for two additional travel lanes, one in each direction. This will facilitate construction when the road needs to be widened to its final six-lane width in the future. System connectivity. This project provides connectivity from Wagley Robertson Road to Blue Mound Road (FM 156) and would continue improving the connectivity on Bonds Ranch Road. TxDOT is planning to widen Blue Mound Road to a six-lane divided roadway. In addition to the Bonds Ranch Road improvements, this project will provide the connection to Wagley Robertson Road to the north. The intersection will provide a signalized access point for existing neighborhoods to the north. Safety enhancements. Bonds Ranch Road will be widened with a raised median to control access and to allow for turn lanes at major intersections, which will improve safety by reducing conflict points. Roundabout improvements will also reduce conflict points. Medians, turn lanes and roundabouts are proven safety countermeasures that result in a significant reduction in crashes and will help implement the City of Fort Worth's Vision Zero Plan. The median will also provide for a Quiet Zone, a safety countermeasure to prevent vehicles from driving around the gates at the at-grade BNSF railroad crossing. The addition of a raised median and intersection improvements will greatly reduce crashes and improve safety along this corridor. Get articles like this in your inbox. Subscribe to City News.
