Press release from the Austin Chamber of Commerce - Blog: April 07, 2022 Insights Burning Glass made improvements to more efficiently identify expired job postings and this resulted in fewer "available jobs" before stabilizing at a new level as of January 23, 2022. Available job postings historically did not change. The time series experienced a one-time downward shift. This is a change due to a better methodology. Job Postings measured in this report refer to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month. There were approximately 83,200 available job postings during the March 2022 monthly reporting period. There were 28,700 New (first-time) Job Postings. New (first-time) Job Postings in March 2022 represented 35 percent of all Available Job Postings and this is a decrease when compared to the previous month as employers are posting fewer (first-time) jobs in the region. 15 percent or 12,300 of all Available Job Postings during the March 2022 reporting period fell under Management Occupations while 11,200 Available Job Postings fell under Computer and Mathematical Occupations, showing continued strong demand for experienced or senior talent and tech talent in our region. For the past seven months, Computer and Mathematical postings have fallen behind the Management occupational group as employers could also be posting open Computer and Mathematical jobs outside our market because there are more opportunities to work remotely with these occupations. Recently released data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for the Austin MSA shows that the annual median wages for Educational Instruction and Library Occupations, Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations, Construction and Extraction Occupations, Computer and Mathematical Occupations and Legal Occupations saw the highest year-to-year growth. The change is not yet reflected in the job postings below as Burning Glass has yet to update their information, however, see the table below for the new data from BLS. There are currently about 5,300 postings indicating vaccination requirements or mentions, 1,900 more when compared to the previous month of February 2022. This could also be due to more companies having firmer plans for employees returning to the office or workplace. There were 6,100 postings that offered "signing bonuses", an increase of 900 more postings when compared to the previous month. 38 percent or 31,300 of Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 59 percent or 18,500 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 15 percent or 4,700 will require a bachelor's degree. There are about 930 internship positions posted, in-person or remote, 80 more postings than the previous month. The top three companies with the most postings are all semiconductor industry-related, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Intel Corporation, and Cirrus Logic Incorporated. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported the lowest unemployment rate in the state, at 3.3% in February 2022. The total number of unemployed in the Austin MSA is about 44,900. More jobs ahead. In March 2022, the Austin metro region saw a total of about 700 jobs announced through new relocation or expansion plans. Barings (London, UK), GoStudent (Vienna, Austria), Kroger (Cincinnati, OH), Skybox (Dallas, TX), Sovereign Flavors (Santa Ana, CA), Target (Minneapolis, MN), and Tricentis (Mountain View, CA) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating about 525 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing 175 jobs, includes CesiumAstro, Colossal Biosciences, Kimley-Horn, Roku, and Wursta.
