BENICIA, CA — Crews on Saturday were working to put out a huge blaze that quickly crew to a four-alarm fire in the port in Benicia.
The fire erupted at a dock in the 1200 block of Bayshore Rd., prompting longshoremen to evacuate, according to the Benicia Fire Department.
Residents were urged to avoid the area, which ad a heavy police and fire presence due to the fire, the Benicia Police Department tweeted.
The dock ramp near the fire was fully engulfed in flames just before 2 p.m., according to ABC7.
Authorities were monitoring the winds throughout the afternoon for unfavorable changes, which could trigger a shelter-in-place order may be issued within the Benicia city limits, according to the fire department.
"We continue to monitor air and wind conditions. Wind conditions are favorable. The fire response is active and continuous. At this time, no structures have been burned. There continues to be no threat to the public," fire officials tweeted at 3:41 p.m.
