Point Boro Issues Warning As COVID Ends Football, Several Sports

POINT PLEASANT BORO - Point Pleasant Boro schools have decided to end several sports programs this season because of coronavirus cases. And the district's top officials issued a warning now that the community and the state have seen a sharp rise in cases recently, saying the district could shift back to all-remote if conditions don't improve. "All parents should continue to enforce social distance restrictions," Smith said. The seasons will end because students from each program tested positive for COVID-19, Superintendent Vincent Smith said. The sports affected are varsity and junior varsity football, boys varsity soccer and girls cross country. Parents of affected students in each program have been notified and advised of the specified number of days that their child must remain in quarantine, Smith said. "We will continue to be in contact with the Ocean County Health Department and take the necessary steps to protect the health and safety of the entire Point Pleasant school community," Smith said. As the district is notified of new cases and exposures, the administration is taking necessary precautions to notify the parents of students directly affected, Smith said.
