Job purpose: Dump Truck Drivers are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of light and heavy vehicles and power equipment on assigned projects or activities. This will include but is not limited to driving and operating dump trucks safely and efficiently while loading, unloading and hauling fill material to and from pits, quarries and job sites. This position will be required to receive dispatch orders and follow road maps to pick up and drop off various loads of materials. Conduct pre-trip truck inspections. Pick up correct materials and deliver to the specified locations per the supervisor’s or client’s requests. Complete and maintain load tickets. Load and unload fill material. Perform basic vehicle maintenance and ensure compliance with all safe work practices, policies, and processes at all times. GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Administrative: Complete daily Equipment, Pre-task Safety, Excavation, and other Daily reports. Machinery Operation: Operate all trucks and potentially other heavy equipment like off road dump trucks, tractors, excavators, dozers, front-end loaders, and other related equipment. Operate the machines, trucks, or equipment in a safe and secure way. Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the trucks and equipment. Perform minor repair works during functioning problems and advise supervisor when machines need major attention. Safety: Maintain an environment to avoid injury or property damage. Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment. Perform pre-task safety reviews and all DOT specified safety checks prior to operation. Wear proper PPE for the job and ensure other employees are following suit. Technical: Follow direction from supervisors and/or dispatchers to ensure accurate schedules and procedures are being carried out. Operate various types of trucks with or without trailers. Follow dispatch requirements via text, email, verbal, or the dispatching phone application. Potentially load and haul various pieces of equipment on trailers and transport from various jobsites. Strap, chain, and tie down all loads to ensure safe transport. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The CDL Dump Truck Driver works under the direction of the Superintendent and Trucking Operations Manager. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Be a self-starter to ensure you and others work is being efficiently performed. Adapt to changing work conditions/situations to ensure the workday is efficient. This includes taking direction from the supervisor and making adjustments to your daily duties freely. Identify potential issues ahead of time and alert supervisor. Ask questions of the supervisor to ensure your understanding of the work taking place and the details associated with the tasks at hand. Communicate both verbally and written. Develop knowledge of electronic communication and tools. Includes but not limited to: email, web based programs for tracking and reporting, and other basic computer skills. Maintain a valid commercial driver’s license and a clean driving record. Maintain the ability to work outside in various weather conditions Plan and execute assignments as outlined with the supervisor to maintain positive production each week. Lead by example, help others build their knowledge base, and help motivate individuals to get the job done accurately and efficiently. Have knowledge of engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, suspension, and the controls for each.
