Join the Farm Alliance of Baltimore’s Black Butterfly Urban Farmer Academy for an on farm field day! This hands-on field day will be hosted at Hidden Harvest Farm and instructed by Marvin Hayes of the Baltimore Compost Collective. Marvin will discuss the benefits of composting and best practices on managing both large and small compost systems. The Hidden Harvest Compost Co-Op will discuss their volunteer run community compost model. Attendees are invited to bring their own vegetable scraps (more info here) and will have the opportunity to participate in the composting process from start to finish. Together, we will build a new compost pile and process completed compost into the final product - black gold! There will be time at the end of the workshop for attendees to tour Hidden Harvest Farm’s vegetable garden, orchard, chickens. This is an in-person workshop. Pre registration is required so we can plan accordingly. We suggest that attendees wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you won't mind getting dirty. Be sure to bring a water bottle! There will be a hand washing station on site, as well as extra masks, waters, hand sanitizer, sunscreen & bug spray. Hidden Harvest Farm is an urban farm and community garden located in the Station North Arts District/Greenmount West Neighborhood. Our goal is to nurture a beautiful and bountiful space in which flowers, fruit, vegetables, herbs, insects, birds, and humans live harmoniously, and to share knowledge and community.
