Description

Join Kathryn Flinn, a plant ecologist and Associate Professor of Biology at Baldwin Wallace University, for a one-hour spring ephemeral hike Join Kathryn Flinn, a plant ecologist and Associate Professor of Biology at Baldwin Wallace University, for a one-hour spring ephemeral hike at the Preserve! While at BW, she has studied the presettlement vegetation of Cuyahoga County and the development of local old-growth forests. She teaches Intro Bio, Ecology, and Plant Systematics courses. She is originally from Pennsylvania and earned her Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from Cornell University. Meet at the Oviatt entrance parking lot at 10 AM. Hike participants will search for spring ephemeral wildflowers. Spring ephemerals are a very diverse set of plant species that emerge, bloom, and complete their whole life cycle during a brief window in the spring before the canopy leafs out. We will learn how to use Newcomb’s field guide (provided for you to borrow) to identify them. Field guides will be provided for you to borrow, but if you prefer, bring your own. Dress for the weather. Maximum participants = 15.
