IIDA Speaks will host a variety of inspirational speakers from people in the Interior Design community based out of New Jersey. IIDA Speaks is not only an opportunity to learn, but a moment to become inspired and connect to the Interior Design community on a more meaningful and impactful level. Topics will range from lessons learned, inspiring moments, biggest fears, what they love, what they wish they knew, and more. This event will be a great opportunity to network in person, but will also be broadcasted live on Zoom. Food and Beverages will be provided to in-person attendees. Speakers & TopicsJennifer Ellis Rosa, IIDA, NCIDQ LEED AP ID+C – Strategist, Senior Associate - Gensler One size does not fit all: The different paths Interior Design can take you. This talk will be broken into two parts. The first part will focus on highlights from personal journeys from college through professional career to date. Jennifer will tell personal stories of pivotal moments that led to awareness and discovery of alternate paths. The second part will be more of a “how to” for those evaluating next steps in their career or how to stay open to possibilities. She will speak to what client’s want, understanding they are dealing with stress and outside pressures and go into detail of strategies she uses to make the client vision your own. Raul Garcia-Moncada, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEED AP, WELL AP – Associate Principal & Senior Interior Designer I Buildings + Places I NE Region - AECOM What the Nose Knows Raul will explore the parallels between fragrance development and design and how the built environment interlaces with a sensory experience that triggers a rush of memories often long past, or even seemingly forgotten. Corinna D’Ambrosio, CID, LEED AP ID+C, WELL AP, IIDA – Ware Malcomb Enlightenment from Student Critiques Just like many students, Corinna went through portfolio critiques in college, and now performs critiques herself. In this session, she will discuss the key lessons students should apply to their portfolios, what she has learned from critiquing student’s designs, and what companies can learn from both students and teachers to engage and retain emerging talent. Melissa Strickland, NCIDQ – Senior Project Designer - HLW Creating a healthy workplace focused on the employee experience, rebuilding culture and wellbeing. Eisai, a recently completed project by HLW will be used as the case study since this project incorporates a healthcare company's commitment to wellbeing. Targeting multiple certifications (LEED, Well, Fitwell) giving prime spaces to employee spaces / collaboration / learning and development, amenities, and a special area dedication to learning from patients that they have helped. Dawn Paruta, IIDA, CID, WELL AP – Senior Project Manager, Senior Associate, NY Metro - AECOM Your brain on Aesthetics An emerging study, Neuroaesthetics looks at how our brains react to our surroundings. When we experience a space our brain is constantly sensing and perceiving our environments and our physiology responds to this. What can happen when neuroscience and interior design collide? Can we create spaces that impact us positively on an emotional level?
