Description

OFF-SITE EVENT: Day Nature Walk at The San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary with Ron Vanderhoff OFF-SITE EVENT: Earth Day Nature Walk at The San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary with Ron Vanderhoff Saturday, April 23 at 9 AM Celebrate Earth Day in a natural, beautiful and little-known wild space, right in the center of Orange County. We will celebrate the earth, it’s amazing plants and animals and learn about how our gardens can contribute to a healthy planet. We will meet at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine, not far from the UCI Campus. The Reserve is a 300-acre open space site composed of extensive marsh, wetlands and adjacent natural areas, all interconnected by 12 miles of walking trails. It is an amazing natural treasure. The Reserve is also the home of our local Audubon chapter and includes some of the best wildlife viewing in Orange County. Over 280 different birds have been identified at the preserve, as well as over 120 species of plants. Ron is a leading Orange County native plant botanist and ecologist and knows the flora of the Reserve extensively. During this visit, we will not only enjoy the beauty of the site, but Ron will identify and discuss the wide array of plants, insects and animals we will see, and unravel a bit of their ecology. It’s a great family event! Limited to the 30 attendees. Directions and other details will be provided upon reservation. RSVP required. RSVP by sending an email to [email protected] and include: name, number of attendees, email and phone number.
