HINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PROM GUIDELINES The Senior Prom will be held at Granite Links on Thursday, June 2 from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The officers, class advisors, and class parents have gone to great lengths to make this a wonderful evening for all those who attend. Students are expected to arrive at the prom by 8:00 PM and stay at the prom until the end. However, if it is necessary for a student to leave before 10:00, he or she must bring a note from his or her parents. Notes must be given to the principal in advance or upon arrival at the prom. The following guidelines are designed to ensure student safety at the Senior Prom. By signing your name to this agreement, you acknowledge the following rules and promise to abide by them at the prom. It is understood that if you violate this code of conduct, you will be subject to the consequences listed below. Students must sign this agreement in order to purchase dance tickets. Students are responsible for making their dates aware of these expectations as well. Summary of Behavioral Expectations at School Dances Students must dress appropriately and dance in good taste. Students and parents should be aware that breathalyzer tests will be given at the prom. Students who refuse to take a breathalyzer test will be removed from the dance and released to a parent. The school will impose appropriate disciplinary action. Dances are drug-free and alcohol-free events. Possession (e.g., on person, in locker, in car, etc.), use, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol in a school building or on school property is prohibited. The use or possession of alcoholic beverages or other controlled substances or being under the influence of any drug including alcohol is prohibited at any school-sponsored activity regardless of location. Students violating this policy shall be immediately barred from attendance at the activity and shall be subject to further disciplinary actions. In addition, students abusing over the counter medication may be subject to the same consequences. The sale, distribution, possession or use of drugs, narcotics or alcohol on school property is a criminal offense and, therefore, is subject to both legal prosecution and school disciplinary procedures. Water bottles, personal beverages, and backpacks will not be permitted inside the dance. Dinner will be provided. Consequences as Stated in the Hingham High School Student Handbook Students will not possess (possession includes group possession i.e. in automobiles), use or be under the influence of drugs or alcoholic beverages on school property or at school-sponsored events, wherever held. On first offense, the student will be suspended for a minimum of five days. A parental conference shall be required before the student is readmitted. Also, the student will be ineligible for extracurricular activities for twenty-five (25) school days. On the second and subsequent violations, the student will be suspended from all activities for one calendar year (12 months). Any student found in violation of the school’s alcohol and drug policy at a school dance will lose the privilege of attending school dances including the proms for the remainder of that school year. Prom tickets will be sold during the week of April 25 - the week after April Vacation. Tickets are $35 each.
